Parameterized pattern queries

چکیده
We introduce parameterized pattern queries as a new paradigm to extend traditional pattern expressions over sequence databases. A parameterized pattern is essentially a string made of constant symbols or variables where variables can be matched against any symbol of the input string. Parameterized patterns allow a concise and expressive definition of regular expressions that would be very complex to describe without variables. They can also be used to express additional constraints, to “relax” pattern expressions by allowing more freedom, and finally to cluster patterns in order to minimize the number of symbols’ comparisons.

On tractable query evaluation for SPARQL
Despite much work within the last decade on foundational properties of SPARQL – the standard query language for RDF data – rather little is known about the exact limits of tractability for this language. In particular, this is the case for SPARQL queries that contain the OPTIONALoperator, even though it is one of the most intensively studied features of SPARQL. The aim of our work is to provide...
متن کاملParameterized Pattern Matching - Succinctly
The fields of succinct data structures and compressed text indexing have seen quite a bit of progress over the last 15 years. An important achievement, primarily using techniques based on the Burrows-Wheeler Transform (BWT), was obtaining the full functionality of suffix tree in the optimal number of bits. A crucial property that allows the use of BWT for designing compressed indexes is order-p...
متن کاملA Method for Protecting Access Pattern in Outsourced Data
Protecting the information access pattern, which means preventing the disclosure of data and structural details of databases, is very important in working with data, especially in the cases of outsourced databases and databases with Internet access. The protection of the information access pattern indicates that mere data confidentiality is not sufficient and the privacy of queries and accesses...
متن کاملThe parameterized space complexity of model-checking bounded variable first-order logic
The parameterized model-checking problem for a class of first-order sentences (queries) asks to decide whether a given sentence from the class holds true in a given relational structure (database); the parameter is the length of the sentence. In 1995 Vardi observed a polynomial time algorithm deciding the model-checking problem for queries with a bounded number of variables. We study its parame...
متن کاملA The Fine Classification of Conjunctive Queries and Parameterized Logarithmic Space
at Wien We perform a fundamental investigation of the complexity of conjunctive query evaluation from the perspective of parameterized complexity. We classify sets of boolean conjunctive queries according to the complexity of this problem. Previous work showed that a set of conjunctive queries is fixed-parameter tractable precisely when the set is equivalent to a set of queries having bounded t...
